Since I have been traveling outside of the Netherlands for longer than 8 months in the last year, I have had to officially sign myself out of the Netherlands.
🌞 However, thanks to my dad & his address, I could still have my business operating in the Netherlands (making Taxes a heck of a lot easier 😉)
I also had to find another health insurance.
But you know what, I did it.
👀 Even though in the beginning it was overwhelming and I did not even know where to start. (Or where it would end).
But it was worth every second of that research, and would do it over again and again if it means my life gets to look like this 🗺

2 years ago, 2021, I was commuting to work for 40 minutes every day, to sit in an office the whole day, commuting back for 40 minutes to eat, sleep, and repeat.
🤨 And I thought to myself, this couldn’t really be it.
This is not the life I could see myself settling for.
What I did to change my direction?

I had been stuck in the corporate hamster wheel for 5 years when I decided to break free from it.

I did not become a powerful woman, a self-leading business, and a traveler by taking on in my daily life like I always would have.

2️⃣ Be grateful. Even if you’re not yet where you want to be, having a positive attitude opens up doors and attracts positive things.

The hardest thing about starting your own business?
Starting.
🫣 Actually setting it up despite the doubt, fear, and lies that your mind will tell you out of protection.
So what to do about it? 👇🏻
The best way to let go of those voices in your head that scream ‘NO’ is not to scream back at it,
But rather embrace it.
👉🏻 Recognize that doubt and realize it is all coming from your subconscious mind that is just trying to protect you due to limiting beliefs, or past experiences.
Tell those voices that you’re grateful for them, that they have protected you in the past.

You can make

Look I’m not here to tell you starting a business is the easiest thing ever. 👇🏻
👉🏻 It includes getting behind a desk and doing research,
👉🏻 Having to pop on social media regularly in order to build a portfolio/ build an audience of ideal clients,
👉🏻 Long days and little pay (especially in the beginning.
But I found a reason, and so did my clients.
That reason is that all of that are short-term ‘worries’, for a long-term solution!
Now I won’t lie to you and tell you that my life is now stress-free,
But I know that if I would have stayed in my 9-5, I would still have had to deal with stress.
There are days that I still want to give up and choose the ‘easy’ way, just working under a contract for someone else.
But I know that back when I did, I used to think about giving up a LOT more often.
🌻 NOTHING can beat the happiness and the freedom that I’ve created for myself.

2 years ago, summer changed my life by 180 degrees. And it went a little like this;
👉🏻 Getting ‘let go’ of my job while I was on a holiday
👉🏻 Freaking out and chaos
👉🏻 Giving the ‘online business owner’ a try
👉🏻 Becoming a Virtual Assistant with barely any experience
👉🏻 Turning this ‘online side hussle’ into a full time job, allowing me to now travel the world in financial freedom.
I still can’t believe that if I never had been ‘let go’ in my old 9-5 job, I might not even be where I am now!
It was a trial and error sort of process, especially in the beginning things did NOT go the way I wanted.
And even now, they sometimes don’t.
That’s just how life is, and as a business owner it is more important to know how to deal with an ‘error’ than to try and avoid it. Cuz it WILL happen.
However I don’t think that this should let you stop yourself from taking the step of starting YOUR online business journey.
I have a lot to thank my mentors for, but mostly for always supporting me and making me see my worth when I didn’t.

‘I could never travel full-time, that would be wayyyy too expensive’
In the past month, me and my partner have shared a total cost of $1.875,03 Australian Dollar.
This would be equal to $1.251,58 US Dollar.
For 2 PERSONS.
🛒 Groceries- $643.15
We are currently located in a resort town where I part-time work with camels, for the fin of it and because I love the animals. Groceries here are a bit more expensive since there’s just one supermarket and the closest town is a 5 hour drive. With that though, we do get a resident discount.
📱 Phone Billing- $78
39 dollars a month, we both have a deal with Optus which allows us to use 100GB per month. With my business, this is IDEAL and I can’t believe how lucky we got with a deal like that.
🚗 Diesel- $116.38
It is a small town and we mostly walk, meaning we’re not using any fuel right now! This was normally our biggest expense as we used to travel and sleep in our vehicle.
🍴 Eating out- $317.50
We could have saved on that one to be honest, but as the activities here are limited- getting food and drinks with friends and with each other is our ‘replacement’ for that.
🍾 Alcohol- $80
This is the alcohol we brought and drank home, same thing where we could have saved on it, but don’t regret spending it 🙂
🏠 Rent- $640
Which is reducted from our weekly pay, as we both pay $80 a week.
All and all, I think these costs are not any different than if I would live a ‘normal’ life, though now I get to enjoy driving around a new country, make new friends, have unlimited joy, and explore something new every week.
My life is exactly as I once dreamed it to be, and if you’re dreaming of doing the same, aka traveling the world however you want to, I think money should NOT be a factor as to why it should ‘not be possible’.
Finances always change depending on where you travel, if you’re moving around or staying somewhere longer, how ‘fancy’ you want to live.
In the end, you are responsible for your own costs.
And I think this way of living is a heck of a lot better than staying in my home town and having a regular 9-5 like I did 😉
I wouldn’t trade it for anything 👇🏻
I have been away from home for nearly a year now, following my dreams of exploring the world.
🌞 My biggest lesson I’ve learned in those past few months?
The expansiveness of feeling happy can not be described by words, nor be thought about until you have experienced the feeling of travel.
If 2 years ago, I didn’t make the CHOICE to take action on this dream by creating an online business, without any experience whatsoever, I would NOT be where I am today.
Yes, I could have let myself give up because;
👉🏻 I didn’t know where to start.
👉🏻 My business didn’t take of straight from the beginning.
👉🏻 I had to learn loads about marketing my business and finding clients.
👉🏻 My business was not designed for travel in the beginning (A.K.A. i had to shift my packages in order to be able to work LESS and enjoy traveling)
To be honest, there were a couple of times where I did want to give up 😅
And in those moments, I thought back of how far I had already come.
All the hardships I had already faced.
So surely this one would be no different?!
Don’t let your fear stop you,
Not while you have the possibility to have a mentor who can guide you through your hardships.

(3/3) So long long before this even happend, I asked my old internship (TUI travel agency) for a job, which they didn’t have at the time.
Now, just two days after getting ‘fired’ from my 9-5 job, I suddenly get a message from my old trainer at that place that they’ve got a job available for me!
A week before, you could NOT have made me happier.
Now, I was already settling into the idea of starting my own Virtual Assistance business.
After months of seeing other people on social media taking the leap, following their journey, I had finally decided for myself I was going to give it a try.
But now that I had a ‘real’ job offer… what should I do?!
Back home from my holidays, I consulted my best friend. Then my other friends. Then my old collueges (from another job before my 9-5). Then my family.
And they all gave me one answer.
Do it, choose yourself. Choose your dream.
If it fails, there will be plenty of jobs lining up for you.
And so I did,
I turned down the offer and set sails to start my own business.
I had a long journey ahead of me, but I instantly knew I made the right decision.
To be honest, turning down that ‘dream job’ was not as hard for me as I thought it was.
It was a decision that made it all more ‘final’ for me, and a sign that I REALLY had to go for it.
Looking back now, after becoming a VA, turning it into ‘Social Media Manager’ and now being a mentor to everyone who desires to become a Digital Nomad and travel the world,
I could not be more grateful for all the support that I had back then.
It was definitely the breaking point where I said goodbye to the old ‘Alissa’, and let myself be whoever I wanted to be, and having the freedom to explore what that was freely.
I am beyond grateful that I get to guide others through their journey as a Digital Nomad Mentor now, and have found my passion as a traveler.

(2/3) So now that I basically got fired right in between my scuba dives and enjoying my holidays in Aruba, I felt frustrated at first.
🤨 Now I was left to searching for new jobs, sending out job applications while I was trying to enjoy a sunny vacation?!
The shock faded and, I started noticing that I wasn’t that angry about it at all.
Actually, I felt more relaxed than before.
🤔 I analyzed my feelings and was a bit confused.
I surely needed to get back to a job?
But did I?
I felt so stuck, so unhappy working a 9-5 and already knew I had always seen it as a temporary thing.
I didn’t like being told when I could have my freedom and when I had to slave away under someone else’s command.
I realized it was time to do something I had been thinking about of doing, but never took action on it because ‘I didn’t know how’.
🫢 Which really, just meant I was comfortable the way I was.
I knew it was time to act on my goals, I was going to start my own business and become a Virtual Assistant!
And as if the universe wanted to test me, right on que…
I get a RANDOM message from my old internship trainer that they can offer me a job.
The job that I asked them for, months in advance!
So what was I gonna do?
Seeing as this story is still too long, I will talk about that in the third and final part of this story tomorrow 🫶🏻
(1/3) This is the story of how I got fired while I was on holiday,
And how it sent me down a cannonball effect. ⤵️
It was the summer of 2021, and me and my family were visiting Aruba for the holidays.
Me and my dad love diving, so we planned in 2 scuba dives for that day.
📞 Right after the first dive, on our way to the second dive spot, I get a call from the Netherlands; it was from work.
Now, you have to understand, the work I did back then was a 9-5 office job.
It was set up when COVID was rising and we were working in the name of the government, calling people who were infected to guide them through the rules of quarantaine.
As COVID vaccinations were going around and the amount of people getting sick slowed down, our office was on the verge of ‘ending’
I checked my phone, and hit that red button, HARD. I was on vacation 🤷🏻♀️🤣
I later sent out a text message to my manager saying that I was on holidays and therefore unable to receive his calls (mental health priorities ✅)
As a reply he let me know that he was sorry to have to let me know this way, but an email would explain everything.
📧 As I opened the email, it read;
We are sorry to inform you in this manner, but as a result of our office getting less work, you, amongst others, have been let go from the program.
Soooo as this is a long ass story, I will tell you how I reacted to getting jobless while on holidays and how I declined a DREAM job later on, tomorrow 🌞🫶🏻

Whereas some people believe that we were put on earth with a mission, a goal to fulfill,
Others believe that we were put here to simply live.
To find happiness in the small things and life day by day, simply in the state of ‘being’.
The way I like to look at it, is finding no point in anything.
Sounds a bit depressing now that I see it like this 😅
But what I mean by this is, everything is temporary.
We are only here for a short bit of our existence, so why bother to strive after dreams that aren’t yours?
Why do anything in life that isn’t aligned with your happiness?
A perfect example of this is right before I left to pursue my dreams of traveling around the world, an old friend asked me;
Why wouldn’t you want to find a good job, prepare yourself for the future instead?
I told him;
Give me one good reason of why I would choose a lifestyle like that over one that would make me happy?
He had no answer for that.
WE decide what makes us happy,
And WE decide to prioritize our happiness.
So this is for everyone who has been feeling for a while now they were meant for something BIGGER.
For the people that want to explore the world and its potentials, while unlocking yours.

Once upon a time… I worked corporate!
I had the same goals and hopes for myself as any other woman in her late teens would have 🪐
A good paying job,
A proper house in a neat suburb,
A family of my own.
Somewhere in those lines something got twisted, to say the least 👀😂
I now;
Have a high-paying job, but I made it myself (I’m the only boss I answer to) and it gives me all the freedom I want,
Would still like a place of myself some day, but there is no rush and I can’t imagine living in a ‘suburb’, I’ll choose remote or small-town beach vibes over anything!
And lastly, I’m looking forward to a kids-free future (by my own choice).
And I love the freedom my life gives me now, to make all my choices freely (and sometimes spontaneously, as a full-time traveler 🏜

When I was stuck in a 9-5 I didn’t like… It fueled me to find something better.
Eventually, it turned out to be that push I needed in order to finally start up my own business and pursue my happiness instead of joining the mob in a ‘regular’ life.
Taking on that job, a call center job that was in my life to get me ‘rich’ easily, made me turn my life around 180 degrees and I never looked back 🌴👩🏼💻🌞🌊🐚

When I started my journey as a Digital Nomad, all I was dreaming of was sitting on a beach chair at some fancy club drinking cocktails, while working a maximum of 15 hours a week.
It didn’t take long or I swapped that vision for Australia’s hard-core outback. Rugged living in the desert, away from all civilization.
Is that what I where I want to be for the rest of my life?
Probably not, at heart I’m still living for the beach days and my goal is to one day live in a gorgeous, humble beach-shack 🌞🌊🏝🐚
But until that’s my reality, my biggest gratitude point at the moment is being able to explore all of this.

When opportunities pass by in life we often -almost instinctively- look past them.
If I didn’t take the chance to live in the Caribbean when I only just turned 18 years old 3 days before, I would have never realized how much I love travel.
And I never would have subconsciously prepared myself for living abroad.
If I didn’t take that soul-sucking call centre job to save money for my big trip, I never would have tried to create a job that would be fun AND financially supportive at the same time.

Honestly, finding the right job that suits you can be TRICKY.

The last few days I’ve felt super uneasy.
I was traveling the most beautiful road of Australia, but I felt like I needed to be doing more.
So at our stayover I grabbed my laptop and… nothing.
I realized I was stressed because in my head I needed to be DOING more in order to make BIG moves.
But the truth is, I am in transition state.
I am leveling up (the most work is done on the inside 🦋),
I am saving energy,
For when I am ready to showcast these bog moves to the outside world.

Things I’ve learned so far:
🐚 One thing I’ve learned is: you can choose your family ANYWHERE in the world. No, they will not replace your actual family at home, but when you travel slow and you open your heart, I guarantee you will make connections that you will treasure for the rest of your life.
🐚 Dream. Big.
The world is your oyster. No one here can tell you what you can do or achieve. Every successful ‘first’ person had to break the boundaries of normal, everyone is scared of being judged. What I’m trying to say here is, just go for it. And say Fk it more often.
🐚 The list of ways to make money on the road are endless.
I met and talked with a lot of ppl, one time I crossed someone who’s job was to host small-group wine and painting meetings! 😱🍷🍇

Ever since I was a little kid and going for a vacation, I just LOVED the feeling of crossing a border.
Seeing new landscapes form.
Hearing different languages.
Growing up in Europe, I was extremely lucky that travel was quite litterally just around the corner ⛺️🚗
Yet, driving for 2 days straight, setting up a tent for 3 weeks…
It held something magical.
Not very surprising I never wanted to leave when it was time to go home again 😂
‘Why can’t we just move here?’
‘It won’t feel the same honey, it’s only fun now because we’re holding vacation, but we have to return to normal now’
It wasn’t until I was 18 years old and moved abroad for the first time for a period of 5 months that I realized you don’t HAVE to leave vacation, that’s just something we’ve taught ourselves.
You don’t have to follow your surrounding’s footsteps and find a ‘basic’ job and live a ‘basic’ life like everyone else does.
You hold the magic to create any life YOU want to live.
I knew I was born to travel, no matter how cliché that sounds.
I knew it from a young age, and I finally allowed myself the permission to live the life of freedom that I always craved.
At the end of the day, Digital Nomad life is not much different that your average online business life-
Just with a better view (and weather) 😉

About 4 months ago, I said goodbye to family, friends, and loved ones.

Human first sales is the ‘new’ and ‘better’ way of selling, whereas from your side talking to your ideal clients does NOT feel icky or pushy.

It is a way of selling that will leave both sides extremely happy with the purchase.

I am NOT a fan of making content with the goal of going viral. 🙅🏻♀️
Simply because there is NO way of telling if that’s going to happen.
Even with the perfect recipe, there is no secret sauce to predict what your content is going to do. Especially with the new algorithm changes and low engagement that’s been going on on this app. 🤯
But IF your content would be going viral, it would most likely contain one or more of the points described in the reel. Just make sure your content ALWAYS enhances your business and your content pillars!
If not, you might be attracting the wrong kind of followers 🫣

Whenever I see someone (especially other Social Media Managers or Marketers) say something like ‘Share benefits, not details!’, I can’t help but feel like it’s such a simple thing to say.
Is it true?
Well it’s not wrong but,
Is it the whole truth?
No. 🙅🏻♀️
For a while, I was SO scared to share too many details about my offers with my audience, afraid to scare them away and I couldn’t sell to them.
While I was figuring out the ‘right’ way to sell online, not too often-, just share the benefits-, waiting for the perfect opportunity to sell-.😵💫
I was postponing more rather than just doing it.
There is no ‘Right way’ when it comes to selling, or at least, not just ONE. 🤷🏻♀️
You have to know your audience, you have to know what THEIR way of buying is.
And please, just share the details of your offer.
No one will buy it without it.🙄
